Congratulations to the 2008 THRIVE Award Winners

ARAMARK would like to offer a big congratulations - and thank you - to Carmen Mendez and Marcus Hepler, winners of the 2008 THRIVE Recognition Program drawing.

Marcus Hepler is a General Utility Worker in the Charles E. Daniel Dining Hall at Furman University in South Carolina. He was entered into the drawing for being Results Driven for Customers when he stepped up to help the Homestyle station in a time of need. "Marcus is a most deserving staff member and I could not have picked a better person" said Susan Presto, Assistant District Manager at Furman. "He really understands THRIVE."

Marcus' first reaction when he heard that he had won was total surprise. He said "Are you punking me?" But after a few moments of thought, Marcus said that he would spend part of his $2,500 reward on a hearing aid. He will also contribute to the local Salvation Army Toy Drive because they are running short of toys this year. He said, "I always want to be a Santa but now I will be an Elf." Marcus is a true THRIVE Champion.

Carmen Mendez is a cook at the Vegan Station at Boston University's Fresh Food Company. Entered into the drawing for excellent customer service and aid throughout the summer, she was recognized for being engaged with our customers. As students stopped to hug her good-bye before the semester break, Carmen broke in tears of joy when she heard she had won the drawing. Barbara Laverdiere, BU's Resident District Manager, said that Carmen "exhibits a genuine concern for all the students at West Campus".

Carmen's son is returning from Iraq in a few days and she plans to celebrate with a big party for family and friends that she can host with her winnings. She also planned to buy her only granddaughter "anything Hannah Montana" for Christmas.

Students at BU were so happy to see good things happen for a good person who put smiles on all of their faces.

ARAMARK also expressed their sincere gratitude to all 44,076 employees who were entered into the drawing. They each did something special.
