Giving Thanks

Giving Thanks

From Tamra Taylor, ARAMARK Food Service Director at Corban College:

One early morning last spring, my staff came to my office and asked me to look at something in the kitchen. My mind immediately jumped to a potential piece of equipment malfunctioning, something left out or not cleaned, etc. What could it be?

To my surprise, a beautiful display of thank you notes and flowers covered one of my tables. Somehow, the women of Balyo (an all-female resident hall) gained access to the kitchen to set up the fabulous display. Each note was handwritten, and filled with warmth, humor and genuine compassion.

Here are just a few highlights:

"Thank you so much for all the hard work you do! Thank you for being so helpful and gracious, even after I broke the bottle of balsamic vinegar all over the floor….Thank you!!"

"Dear Kitchen Staff,
Thank you so much for cooking meals for us every day. You save us so much time and are always cooking new and exciting things! We love you!"

"Hey staff,
Thanks so much for takin' care of us!!! I'm loving the fresh food from the grill, yum, yum."

"Thank you Breakfast Crew for always being so cheerful and brightening my mornings!"

"I ain't hungry no more…"

"Dear ARAMARK Staff,
I would like to say thank you for all the hard work you put into making our dining hall a pleasant place to be and eat. Thank you for the thoughtful consideration you put in to serve us and thank you for your creativity in the variety of options. I enjoy seeing your smiling faces and the teamwork it takes to get everything done. I know it takes a lot of work to do what you do! Know that I appreciate you all. I sure am glad to go to a school with such a great dining hall and staff."

There were over 30 notes, just like these. It certainly brightened everyone's day (and my week and month!). I don't know what prompted this, but this is why I love working with students.
