USF Named Fifth Most Vegetarian-Friendly College in the U.S.

The University of South Florida has been awarded fifth place in this year's national Most Vegetarian-Friendly Colleges contest. The first round was against University of Florida and second against Warren-Wilson College.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals expanded their animal rights family in 2002 and Peta2 is now the largest youth animal rights group in the world.

The University of South Florida might be the contest's Cinderella story this year. Earlier in the year, members of Students Protecting the Environment and Animals With Knowledge (SPEAK)-the campus animal rights organization-petitioned alongside peta2 for additional vegan options on campus. After more than 3,000 students showed their support for the campaign, the group began working with the school's dining services department to introduce some truly remarkable meatless choices. Today, the menu boasts a number of delicious dishes and snacks, ranging from vegan black bean soup and vegetarian sausages to "Three-Alarm" Boca burgers and vegan soft-serve ice cream. Now that's change we can believe in!

Ryan Huling, Senior College Campaign Coordinator, peta2.com said, "You can thank the many USF students that emailed us over the past year, raving about the improvements being made on campus."

With the demand for sustainable foods on the rise, this year's competition was tougher than ever before. Congratulations USF!
